I remember when I and my brothers had a rabbit as a pet when we were younger. We used to have a hutch and we would keep sawdust in the bottom and then we would put hay in as well along with rabbit food and vegetables such as carrots, lettuce, cucumber and such.

We also ensured the rabbit had fresh water daily in a water bottle as well and we would let the rabbit come out of the hutch daily either in the garden in a run or in the house in a run if the weather was bad.

Bedding. Mine don't like to be locked up, so the food etc. is not in the cage and they don't pee in it. They keep it clean and do that on the toilet or next to it.

I never owned a rabbit, but having one where you build cages for them is one that I am going to consider on a serious note. You know that it is always safe to have them in cages where they will feel more comfortable and safer than letting them play around.

I live in an apartment. They can go in their open cage if they want to. There's no danger. I used to have a net on the balcony against birds of prey, but after a few years I removed it. I have neighbours with balconies above me. The only bird that comes here is a dove.
They also go sit under the bed when they want to be left alone.
