I hate that they have to do it, but they've had a lot of medical advancements because of it. Same thing with mice. My niece is a scientist, working on Parkinson's cure research, and she has to experiment on mice/rats and it's devastating, but she feels it will someday help the cause.

Experimenting on animals is acceptable if (and only if): suffering is minimised in all experiments.
